Snow in Driveway Photo I promised some of you

You know it's a small world, when Cherei can throw an internet snowball at me from Texas, and it lands smack in my driveway!

I am 5 ft 6-1/2 inches, wearing about 2 inch heels on my boots ... so how high is this snow bank?  The large white blotches in front of the camera are the snow falling when my neighbor took the picture for me last night.

Happy Christmas Eve to all of you.  This is going to be a busy day.  I got up early, and I think I have answered all your comments from my last blog.  (It took me about 3 hours!  Oh my!  But you are ALL worth it.)

Blessings to each of you.  E you later, Rani

Snow Event Number One

I think we got 12 inches.  Here's some photos.

This was taken Friday morning, because the dog, of course, had to go out.

And then she came in:

Then Josh went out to dig:

The snow stopped falling in mid afternoon.  In the next photo, you can see what we dug out just to get out the back door, the portion of the driveway he had cleared mid-morning and how deep the snow fell over where he had shovelled., and also how deep it became where he had not removed the snow right next to the car when he had shovelled in the morning.

Okay, so that was yesterday (Friday).  Today we had to dig out again, but the sun shone off and on all day, and it hasn't snowed at all.  Here Josh is hacking at the snow where the plows filled our driveway near the street.

This afternoon we watched our neighbors digging out their cars that you see in the next photo:

The sun was shining when we did our digging.  Here's how pleasant my front porch was in the sunlight (and if you want to see more of our books, I also just posted a photo album of some of our family library http://ranikaye.multiply.com/photos/album/12/I_Live_in_a_Library)

The reason I call this blog "Snow Event Number One" is because Snow Event Number Two is scheduled to begin tonight (Saturday) in about another 30 minutes ... and continue until 10 o'clock Monday morning, with possibly another 12 inches, and the bonus feature of blowing and drifting.  So stay tuned!

Snow day

Looks peaceful, doesn't it.  Took this at 7:00 a.m.  Michigan State Police are advising motorists to stay off the roads due to blizzard-like conditions with blowing snow.  All our schools are closed, and even the Library and the District Court are closed.  Me, I'm staying home.  Y'all be safe!

Wait a Minute!

If you don't like the weather in Michigan -- Wait A Minute!

Melting all that snow and ice today.  Rain tonight.

Then we get another cold front on Tuesday.

http://www.wzzm13.com/weather/forecast/weather.asp

Quote from the above link (because I think the link is generic, not date-specific):

Monday was a milder day across West Michigan as temperatures soared into the 40s after starting the day in the teens. Some morning sunshine gave way to cloudy skies and eventually some afternoon rain showers.

Monday night look for rain showers through the night, amounting to around 0.25" inland and up to 0.50" along the lakeshore north of I-96. Temperatures will slip into the mid 30s inland and upper 30s along the lakeshore. Winds will be breezy from the south at 10-20 mph inland and 12-22 mph along the lakeshore.

Tuesday will feature scattered rain showers, especially during the afternoon, and mild temperatures once again climbing into the 40s. A very strong cold front will slice across Lower Michigan after sunset touching off a few isolated thunderstorms. Winds will be south at 8-16 mph inland and 10-18 mph along the lakeshore.

Tuesday night will feature an abrupt change once the cold front moves through: temperatures will rapidly drop from the upper 30s and low 40s into the low 20s before midnight. Rain will rapidly change to snow and accumulate 1-3" inland and 3-6" along the lakeshore by midday Wednesday. Winds will turn to the west and increase to 20-30 mph inland and 25-35 mph along the lakeshore. Road conditions will become treacherous during the evening.

Wednesday will feature much colder conditions with morning snowfall followed by mostly cloudy skies during the afternoon. Temperatures will remain in the mid teens to near 20°. Winds will be west at 15-25 mph inland and 20-30 mph along the lakeshore. Wind chills will drop to around 5-10 above.

Temperatures moderate quickly into the upper 20s Thursday with partly cloudy skies.

A developing storm system in the Lower Mississippi Valley will bring moderate to heavy snow to the area starting late Thursday night through much of Friday. Heaviest snow will fall over central and eastern Lower Michigan but West Michigan is likely to significant amounts as well. Temperatures will reach the upper 20s.

Saturday and Sunday will be partly cloudy with temperatures in the low to mid 30s.

The 6-10 Day Outlook for Sunday, February 3 through Thursday, February 7 calls for above average temperatures and above average precipitation. Average highs are around 30-31° with average precipitation of .26" and average snowfall of 2.2".

The 8-14 Day Outlook for Tuesday, February 5 through Monday, February 11 calls for above average temperatures and above average precipitation. Average highs are around 30-31° with average precipitation of .35" and average snowfall of 3.1".

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Snow

Just trying to resolve some computer issues and figure out whether or not I can get photos to appear in my blogs and then stay put anymore.
