Just a couple days ago I accepted an invitation to LinkedIn, set up my profile, and joined a few groups, where I've been reading some blogs about environmental issues, engineering challenges, current events, urban renewal, etc.
The people are very well-educated and articulate, and the ideas they discuss could make your head spin. I love listening in (so-to-speak) on their discussions.
Yet quite often, when they respond to each other, they will begin by saying, "Your right on target, but ..." And it is DRIVING ME RIGHT UP THE WALL!!!!!!
PhDs aplenty, but not an English major among 'em. Sigh.
hahaha... I didn't know about that obsolete meaning :)
me, I've always been one of those annoying people who notice everyone's mistakes, which is why I trained to do proofreading - I thought I might as well put this tendency to good use :)
I had a very dear friend who was a English teacher an learned more from her then ever did in school an notice all the mistakes as she constantly saw or heard them miss her God rest her soul.
lol... what brought this on?

ReplyDeleteLOL! I assure you, I am not a pedant, or at least I'm not an *obsolete* male schoolteacher ;-)
I did work as a proofreader for a publishing house in my youth, though, and some errors just jump out at me and SCREAM, "fix me!"
